OK, so here's the deal - We name all of our Jacks after trees and all of our Jennies after flowers - yeah, it's quirky - so what? Well after breeding donkeys for 12 years my knowledge of tree names was getting a little thin, so I broke down and looked for a list online. - Who knew there's a tree called "Chinese Wingnut"???

Well, after seeing that, I called "dibs" on "Wingnut" for the name of our new arrival.

Carole told me last night that she was pretty sure that Buttercup was going to foal by tomorrow, and she nailed it. I was up at the barn just before sunrise sucking down coffee in preparation for a day of planting and fence mending, - and when I looked in the paddock, Buttercup had still not had her foal so I went about my business and started tilling the garden. After I had my Tomato Trellis's up, I threw an "eye" down towards the girls paddock - and saw a foal trying to stand for the first time!!! - I missed the whole darn thing!!! - Oh well - Mom and son are doing fine and although he's a tiny little thing, he's full of energy!
